About

Brandi Homan is the author of the novel BURN FORTUNE (CLASH Books, 2019) and two books of poetry, Hard Reds (2008) and Bobcat Country (2010), from Shearsman Books.

BURN FORTUNE is the winner of the 2020 Colorado Book Award for Literary Fiction and was named 2020’s Best New Colorado Novel by Denver’s Westword, which called it “a focused and sharp-edged narrative that leaves readers breathless.”

She is a co-founder, with Becca Klaver and Hanna Andrews, of Switchback Books, an independent press that publishes books of poetry by women, including transgender women and all other female-identified individuals. A former Associate Editor of Denver Quarterly, she has helped others with their writing at universities, community colleges, a homeless shelter, a correctional facility, the Newberry Library, and Lighthouse Writers Workshop, among other places.

Homan holds a PhD in English from the University of Denver and an MFA from Columbia College Chicago. Currently, she lives in Vermont, where she thinks about the Midwest, misses playing roller derby, and tells her children that everything will be okay.
